Our Story
Lindsay moved to New York to pursue an MFA at Hunter College and Stephen followed shortly after completing his teaching certificate in Iowa. Since then, they’ve explored the city together, thrown many theme parties (especially Halloween), regularly wandered the halls of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, discovered their favorite omakase spot, and completely obsess over their golden retriever and dog-child, Lotti.
Stephen and Lindsay met in 2011 in a drawing class at the University of Iowa, held in a repurposed Home Depot after a flood years earlier—hardly the most romantic setting, but somehow perfect. Between competing sketches, casual critiques, and falling in love with artists like Bonnard, Courbet, and Balthus, something was already taking shape. It took one fateful night at The Dublin Underground in downtown Iowa City (and maybe a drink or two) for things to click.
Traveling together is one of their favorite things to do—visiting museums and galleries, chasing exceptional food, and occasionally signing up for cooking classes abroad. Highlights include a paella and sangria class in Barcelona, a tapas tour in Madrid, and an Italian cooking class with a Venetian nonna. Closer to home, they love exploring and hiking upstate with Lotti and friends, reconnecting with the sense of landscape they miss from their Iowa upbringing. Stephen has even convinced Lindsay to try her luck at skiing (results still pending).
Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice
Stephen has always been a sports fan; Lindsay is a more recent convert. They mostly agree on who to root for—Arsenal, the San Francisco 49ers, and all things women’s basketball (and politely decline to choose between teams in Iowa).
In the words of Shania Twain, “We mighta took the long way / We knew we’d get there someday.” It’s true—we’re so grateful for every step that brought us here, and for the friends and family who’ve been part of the journey. We can’t wait to gather together and celebrate.
